Uttarakhand Aipan Art has been derived from the traditional folk art of the Kumaon and garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Traditionally, Indian families believe that drinking water stored overnight in copper vessels is good for health, which is why it is widely used as a common household item. The smaller ones are used in religious rituals like during elaborate pujas – often as a replacement for the lota. The design on this Gagar, or the square motifs all over it, are hand-beaten by the coppersmith with a hammer.
